Some of the characteristics of available coatings are:

Antimicrobial
coating with additives that prevents the growth of microbes.

Lubricity
provides slip, low-friction in movement.  Allows ease of insertion for a device, wire, or probe.

Non-stick
provides a surface that prevents build-up of tissue and enhances the ability to be cleaned.

Conductive
Material that has the ability to transfer electrical current.

Non-conductive
Prohibits the transfer of electrical current.

Chemical Resistance
Material that has properties that protect against corrosion.

Thermal Resistance
Resistance to heat of high and low temperatures.

U.V.
Uses photosynthesizers of the ultra-violet spectrum to cure. This coating is ideal for thermallly sensitive substrates.

Hydrophilic
A coating that provides a lubricious surface when exposed to fluid. The fluid acts as the film that allows the coating to “re-act” to the wet environment providing functional performance.
